The Pokémon Company is celebrating thirty years of their iconic pocket monsters this year, teaming up with a huge range of brands for special projects. This week, PUMA has announced their “Day & Night” sneaker collection, arriving very soon.
The Pokémon franchise is turning thirty years old in 2026, capping off their third decade of cultural domination. One of the largest engines of IP in history, Pokémon started off with their OG video games, Red version and Green version (Blue in the US), before issuing their first cards the same year, or 1999 for the first US drop. The anime and movies soon followed, which are still going strong with over 1,300 episodes across 28 seasons. The Pokémon Company makes plushies of nearly all 1,000+ ‘mons, and all kinds of other figurines and collectibles. In recent years, they’ve branched out into other industries through partnerships, the latest of which arrives this week.
Pokémon’s anniversary celebration in the sneaker world kicks off this week with a collection from PUMA. Unofficially called “Day & Night”, the project highlights four Pokémon with contrasting color themes across four sneakers. This pack comes in addition to the “Pikachu” Nitro 2 basketball shoes, though the pack leans more on the lifestyle side. Pikachu makes another appearance for this project in the form of the PUMA Fade, dressed in a yellow upper with black accents. The opposing pair for this style is the “Mimikyu” Inverse sneaker, thoughtfully executed in an “Alpine Snow” canvas build. Next up is the “Umbreon” Fade, which is the inverse of the Pikachu pair, dressed almost entirely in black with some select yellow accents. Umbreon’s opposing sneaker is another Eeveelution, the psychic type Espeon. Espeon gets a slim Mostro silhouette, dressed in Pearl Pink suede and leather with a darker purple accent and black soles. All four styles come with graphic insoles printed with each Pokémon, a special hangtag, and an extra set of laces.
