Nike Unveils the 3D-Printed Air Max 1000

Nike is finally jumping into the world of 3D-printed footwear. Their exploration of new manufacturing is in partnership with Zellerfeld, and the two have reimagined the iconic AM1 into a modern-day version; the Air Max 1000.

3D-printing is not a new concept in the world of sneakers. adidas has been printing midsoles for their Futurecraft line of shoes since 2017, and have recently taken it to a new level with a fully printed ClimaCool silhouette. Another major player in printed footwear is Zellerfeld, a German 3D print house that accepts designs from a wide variety of people and brands, and custom prints shoe’s for each costumer. They have worked with brands like Heron Preston, Khamis studios, and more bringing their unique designs to life.

Enter Nike, who has been notably reserved about sharing their vision for printed footwear over the last few years. Their focus has been more on recycled materials and reusing leftover fabrics, but now they are jumping head first into the new technology in partnership with Zellerfeld, combining 3D printed tech with Air. Their debut model reimagines the Air Max 1 into the Air Max 1000, a single piece of TPU that resembles a futuristic version of the AM1, completes with smooth lines to denote the OG’s paneling and construction.

NIKE AIR MAX 1000 “RED” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike’s debut of their first fully 3D-printed silhouette is set to debut this weekend, exclusively via the ComplexCon convention in Las Vegas. The brand has yet to announce if the shoe will hit wider markets in the future, so pairs might be quite limited for now. If you’re in Vegas for the convention, expect a hefty price tag for the Air Max 1000.
