Time to tilt that fitted 45 degrees and start spamming the G’s: 50 Cent’s Reebok G-Unit G6, originally released in 2003, is finally getting its first-ever retro on August 20th. Non-athletes having sneaker deals is commonplace today, but in 2003, it was hardly the norm. G-Unit’s partnership with Reebok, along with Pharrell and Nigo’s work with the brand through BBC Ice Cream around the same time, greatly helped pave the way for the Kanye Wests and Travis Scotts of the world. These early partnerships proved that a sneaker attached to a non-athlete could not only sell, but sell extraordinarily well.
The upcoming Reebok G-Unit G6 retro leans heavily into that nostalgia and mystique, particularly for grown-up 2000s kids who couldn’t get their hands on a pair back in the day. Reebok has done a solid job replicating the original, complete with a white leather upper, script “G-Unit” branding on the lateral heel, and red, white, and blue detailing across the forefoot.
