Food-motivated may not be the top descriptor for many in this industry, but South Korea’s VandyThePink is well deserving of that culinary characteristic. Across work with Salomon, Clarks, and PUMA, the now Virginia-based multi-hyphenate poured out his love for an edible totem of American culture. It was switching courses that really turned things into a five-star enterprise, as his dessert-themed duo of ASICS GEL-Nimbus 10.1 colorways quickly became one of the standouts for the Japanese giant in 2025.

Now, the “Strawberry” and “Banana Split” colorways merge into a double-scooped follow-up: the VandyThePink x ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1. Carrying both of the vibrant colorings from its predecessor, the tech runner still executes its silvery Y2K top notes, but a “Neapolitan” sole split and flares of pink, yellow, and green in the uppers and cushioning deliver on trademark expressiveness we’ve become accustomed to from the VTP universe. In case past precedent wasn’t enough to convince you of the dessert inspo, cutesy ice cream cone characters live on the insoles and on special edition packaging, the latter carrying faded hues of beige and tan to evoke vintage parlors.

The VandyThePink x ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1 is already listed with a July 1st release date via overseas outlets, but given that neither the sneaker brand nor designer have officially announced this project, we’re doubtful that holds for a wide release.
