Christopher Nolan’s new silver screen epic The Odyssey finally opens globally this week, with several premiere events heralding its arrival. Travis Scott pulled up to today’s even rocking a pair of Nike Moon Shoes, bearing his signature reverse Swoosh.
Travis Scott is a man of many talents. Primarily a rapper, he also has songwriting and producing credits on his music industry resumé, and his collaborations with Nike have minted some of the most valuable sneaker releases of this decade. In addition to footwear, his Cactus Jack brand regularly releases new apparel and accessory collections tied to major global events, album releases, sports games, and more. Back in 2020, Scott got his introduction to the world of film through Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s time-twisting, physics-shattering blockbuster starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson. Scott contributed to the film’s soundtrack with an original song, though his music has been featured in other films and TV prior.
Scott’s contribution to Tenet seemingly struck a chord with Nolan, one of the most important directors working in cinema today. After his last major movie, Oppenheimer, Nolan began work on an adaptation of The Odyssey, the sprawling Homeric Greek myth about Odysseus’ journey back home in the wake of the events of The Iliad. Travis appeared in an early trailer for the movie, taking film bro culture by surprise and drawing a mixed reaction of both negativity and praise for Nolan’s adaptive vision. Scott’s role in the film is a bard, one of the storytellers in ancient Greece who would have helped to shape, interpret, and hand down an epic tale like The Odyssey over generations. Speaking to Time magazine about the film, Nolan said of Scott: “I cast him because I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap”.
With The Odyssey on screens everywhere this week, Travis attended his first red carpet as a film actor this week, and brought out something special for the occasion. Donning a clean black tuxedo, Scott paired his formal wear with a more casual footwear choice, a custom pair of the Nike Moon Shoe. The silhouette is back in the Swoosh catalog recently after decades collecting dust in their archives, but we have heard no rumors and seen no leaks regarding a Travis Scott or Cactus Jack edition of the vintage track model. His version is, as usual, quite different from any retail pairs we’ve seen so far. The Moon Shoe sports a washed black leather upper, matching shaggy suede for the sidewalls and heels, and a burnt red accent for the laces and of course, a reverse Swoosh. There is currently no word on if this pair will release to the public, but given Scott’s silver screen debut, this would be a fitting exclusive pair just for his archives.
