The Foamposite’s status as a totemic Nike design is already ironclad on its own merits, but the influence of the hardened shell silhouette is still being felt through new designs in the 2020s. The return of the Hyperflight has joined the GT Future and the Nike First Sight Shadow as efforts that recall Penny Hardaway’s model and how it reshaped footwear as we knew it. That women’s-focused shoe continues to make its first impression with the “Light Crimson” colorway at hand.
The First Sight family as a whole was positioned by the Swoosh as an initiative to bring disparate genres of footwear into the realm of the fashion-forward; the First Sight Noir took race-day performance wear into a kitten heel world, while the First Sight Mirage embraced spiked footwear with cylinders of cushioning embedded into its sole unit. The First Sight Shadow, then, remains as the representative of basketball, evident with its bulging, molded upper and the bootie-like foot entrance that harkens back to the Huaraches and Foams of the world. This “Light Crimson” pair meets the beloved “Bred” script with some extra runway attitude, including the shimmering mini Swoosh at the toe and the dotted heel counter that evokes some extraterrestrial vibes.
The Nike First Sight Shadow “Light Crimson” should be hitting retailers in the coming weeks, retailing for $145 in women’s sizing.
