The Nike Air Max Joga Bonito might have seemed like a one-and-done hybrid built for the World Cup when it debuted earlier this year, but somewhat surprisingly, the silhouette appears to be sticking around a bit longer. Following releases inspired by both of its references’ original colorways, the quirky Mercurial R9 and Air Max 95 mashup is now serving the traditionalist with a simple “Triple Black” makeup for Fall/Winter 2026.

Taking on a no-frills palette long favored by soccer stars who prefer to let their game do the talking, the hybrid here dials things back with all-black everything from heel to toe. Focus therefore falls entirely on the construction, the stealthy treatment doing a lot to make the quirky hybrid tooling more palatable. The upper takes after Ronaldo Nazário’s iconic Mercurial R9 with wavy paneling and edge piping, while the Big Bubble platform of the surging Air Max 95 materializes underfoot. Given the cultural significance of the Air Max 95 in soccer, including the Brazil National Team wearing the “Neon” during its 2002 World Cup run, we’d say the pairing is a passable one.
