Nike’s Daybreak has become one of the most influential running shoes in the Swoosh’s history. In recent years, the model has seen a small resurgence in releases, the latest of which presents a new SP edition in “Hyper Royal” suede.

The Nike Daybreak debuted in 1979 during Nike’s early running boom, designed as a lightweight distance trainer built for durability and traction. Featuring a nylon upper, suede overlays, and the brand’s signature waffle outsole developed by co-founder Bill Bowerman, the shoe balanced performance and everyday comfort. Though originally performance-focused, the Daybreak gained renewed popularity decades later through retro releases and fashion collaborations, most notably with UNDERCOVER in 2019. Follow-up projects with UNDERCOVER and Sacai would make the model ever-present in 2020 and 2021, before a short hiatus. The Daybreak returned last year with some interesting new premium styles, and now an SP edition has emerged for Spring 2026. This new look ditches the traditional nylon upper for a full suede build, cast in Hyper Royal blue with white accents for a classic look.

Nike’s new special-edition style of the Daybreak runner does not have an official release date for the US yet, but pairs have already started to pop up overseas at boutiques like Noirfonce. Hopefully we will see a global drop in the coming weeks. This version covers the retro runner entirely in a “Hyper Royal” suede for the upper, with contrast tones in white. Pairs will come with a slightly elevated price tag of $130.
