In the last few years, New Balance has updated some of their iconic sneakers with a new, modernized look. The latest model to get this treatment is the 997R, coming later this year.
New Balance’s archives contain decades of iconic footwear, and the knowledge gained from each has inspired countless new models as well as updates to come of their classics. In recent years, the Boston brand has introduced a number of silhouettes from their past, updated with a more modern design and materials. This week, we got an early look at their latest effort in this field, the 997R. The original 997 made its debut in 1991 as a premier running shoe, but has since evolved into an everyday casual sneaker. The newly minted R version brings some slight tweaks to the look, adjusting the upper’s panelling for a sleeker, more cohesive look, and reworking the midsole to match. Seen in a leaked ‘Grey’ color scheme, we are hoping to see the 997R debut later this year.
NEW BALANCE 997R ‘GREY’ RELEASE INFORMATION
New Balance’s upcoming 997R has not been announced for release, and will likely not make its debut until late in 2023. Seen here in their classic grey color scheme, pairs will be available initially from the brand’s website before making their way to select retailers.
