The return of the 2001 shape for the Air Force 1 is fully underway, with the first general releases out in the world. Now, Nike has unveiled a new “Cracked Patent” leather pack, coming soon.
Patent leather on the Air Force 1 has a story as rich as the shoe itself. The glossy material became prominent in the early 2000s, when Nike began experimenting with shiny finishes to give the classic silhouette a fresh, fashion-forward edge, with the 2002 “Easter” and “Luxe” releases helping to kick things off. At the same time, Nike introduced a refined shape for the AF1, now referred to as the ’01. This version of the iconic shoe has become the ultimate grail for collectors, and after years in their vault, the Air Force 1 ’01 is now finally back on shelves, and is reuniting with a patent leather build (with a twist) later this year. In today’s SNKRS Verified preview, showcasing upcoming special releases, Nike showed off two pairs of the ’01 Air Force, both sporting a cracked patent leather build. Coming soon in two colorways, black/white and mint green/white, the former pair seems to show off its cracked finish a little better than its counterpart, though both have the look of a decades old sneaker emerging from history for the modern day.

Nike’s next release of the Air Force 1’s remastered ’01 shape has not been given a set date yet, though the two-piece pack is expected to release in September 2026. Dressed in two colorways, one classic black and white and the other in a strong minty green shade, both pairs feature a unique cracked patent leather construction. Pairs will be available through both Nike and select retailers for $140.
