Is there a bit of fatigue surrounding the Nike Air Max 95? Even the most stringent of 110 fanatics would have to admit that it’s gotten about as many marketing dollars as any silhouette in recent years, culminating in countless new colorways, collaborators, palette swaps, and special editions. We’d counter that, stepping back, a glut of “Big Bubble” options is far from the worst problem for any OG-minded collector, but for those who take the glass-half-empty point of view, there just might be a new focus for 2027.
The Nike Air Max 97, both by way of simple math and confirmed look-aheads, is already poised to be a major plotline for next year. First up in the plentiful Paris previews was the Air Max 97 Laceless, revisiting an early-aughts experiment with some tinkered aspects to modernize the concept. Now, one of its more seminal editions, the “Silver Bullet,” is on its way back with its own notable twist.
Yes, as alluded to in our title, the many-times-retroed motif will tack on a black tongue to distinguish the ’27 edition from 2022’s, 2016’s, 2013’s, 2008’s, or, of course, 1997’s. Beyond that new hue running down the midline, the overall blocking from those previous releases remains: chromed-out exteriors, white midsoles, and energetic red flares.
We’ll surely get firmer release info as the new year approaches, but the Nike Air Max 97 “Silver Bullet/Black Tongue” is expected for Spring/Summer, placing it sometime between January and March. Catch in-hand images ahead.
