We’re about to kick off March Madness, and although Kobe Bryant never stepped foot on a college campus, his raw talents were beyond anyone on the NCAA level while he was a member of the Lower Merion Aces. On March 23rd, Nike and Kobe Brand are recognizing the foundation of the Black Mamba legacy by launching a Lower Merion Aces collection by re-releasing the Kobe 5 “Aces” while introducting a few new options.

Already confirmed for the March 23rd launch are the Kobe 5 Protro and two Air Force 1 colorways. Joining that lineup is this satin-covered Dunk Low, which brings several Kobe-specific details to the classic silhouette built with suedes and satins on the upper. At the heel, Kobe Bryant’s Lower Merion jersey and 33 number appears as the heel icon, while his signature is stitched onto the heel tab. The Kobe sheath logo replaces traditional Nike branding on the tongue, tying the design more closely to the Mamba lineage.

Another meaningful touch appears behind the tongue, where the phrase “Friends hang sometimes, banners hang forever” is printed. This is a paraphrase of an actual quote of Bryant from 2015; it explains hhis uncompromising mentality that often prioritized winning above being a friendly teammate, let alone a friend in general. The interior as a whole features a unique pattern mimicking the woven pattern of a basketball net.

Nike confirms that the release of the Dunk Low “Lower Merion Aces” will be a SNKRS Pre-Order for $140 on March 23rd; product will shop out on July 25th.
