If you needed convincing, the last few months have been ironclad proof of something Nike has been claiming for years on years: New York City is a basketball town. It’s not only in the unifying power of the Knickerbockers that the Mecca is the Mecca; NYC has been a pillar of the streetball community and basketball culture as a whole as long as folks have headed to outdoor courts armed with nothing but sneakers and a Spalding.

Nike has dedicated a ton of energy and product to residents of the Big Apple as of late, with the Nike Air Force 1 ’01 “NYC” and the Air Force 1 “Knicks” capitalizing on fans watching Brunson and co. end a half-century championship drought. The shoe at hand, the Nike Air Force 1 Low “NY v. NY,” is the furthest thing from being hastily thrown together. The Nike-sponsored circuit it takes its name from is now a yearly tradition, with the Uptown frequently on the invitees list.

Departing from the sunset themes of the 2024 and 2025 pairs, this year’s has more in common with 2022‘s. Hi-vis green trim is an obvious connection, but so too does this colorway map out some of the city’s best pick-up locales and events; Dyckman, Watson Avenue, West 4th, and the Uptown Challenge all make the cut in wrap-around foxing. Fittingly, “Triple White” leather uppers set the foundation, before a checkered light grey Swoosh and a “NY VS NY” stamp on the heel counter close things out.
