Nike first unveiled this year’s Doernbecher Freestyle collection in October. With the public release around the corner in Spring 2026, we finally have full, detailed looks at each shoe from the collection, like Zach Rumbaugh’s pair of the Air Jordan 17.

Nike’s Doernbecher Freestyle program began in 2004 in partnership with OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, giving young patients the opportunity to design their own Nike sneakers. What started with a single Air Jordan 5 has grown into an annual tradition spanning multiple Nike and Jordan silhouettes. The program raises funds for pediatric care while amplifying the voices and creativity of the designers.After unveiling each year’s selection in the Fall, Nike auctions off 1-of-1 pairs of each shoe during a benefit event. Then, in Spring, a mass-produced version of the shoes are sold to every day customers through a special Nike release.

One of the highlights of this year’s offerings is the inclusion of the Air Jordan 17, one of the most unique mainline silhouettes from Jordan Brand. The shoe rarely releases, but has had a number of special drops this year as Nike appears to be gearing up for a full retro run in 2026. Designed by Zach Rumbaugh for the Doernbecher edition, this pair takes on a metallic purple “Eggplant” color scheme, framed by black accents and adding a GITD outsole. The shoe is packed with details from Zach’s life and CPVT diagnosis, mainly through the number 38, which is the number of days he spent recovering after a serious and sudden cardiac arrest.

Nike has not yet announced a release date for their latest Doernbecher Freestlye collection, though the project typically arrives early in the Spring 2026 season. Among this year’s unique styles is the Air Jordan 17, a frankly very underrated silhouette fro Jordan Brand, with a fantastic design by Zach Rumbaugh. This special release will likely be available exclusively through Nike, with a price tag of $230.
