It feels like every triumph, rivalry, and personal preference from Michael Jordan’s life has made its way into the Jumpman canon. With so much attention already devoted to on-court pursuits and the company’s namesake, Jordan Brand has turned to its designers for unaffiliated fare with what feels like increasing frequency. If the prompt is creative colorways that still pay reverence to the silhouette, the Air Jordan 4 “Comic” is a shining example.
Though we’ve never known His Airness to be an avid comics reader, clearly someone in Beaverton is, especially given the conceptual cohesiveness that defines this pair. Multiple never-before-seen touches distinguish this pair, from the pop art branding on the heel and insoles to the similarly expressive eyestay panels, almost begging for a “KAPOW!” embedded within. A sunset gradient within the pocketed netting windows only adds to that overall character, finalized by a range of included stickers.
