Don’t underestimate the power of pulling back the curtain. Greg Betty, the mind behind Vans’ viral “Souvenir” pack and “Pearlized” series, has been using Instagram to break down the inspiration behind his various Vans designs, adding depth to releases that might have otherwise flown under the radar.
Betty’s latest design breakdown centers on a duo of quilted Slip-On Premiums, both available now via the Vans website. He cites two key references: a quilted Chanel bag and the Don C x Air Jordan 2 “Varsity Royal” from 2015, the latter drawing on the model’s Italian-made roots. It’s worth noting that Betty now works at Jordan Brand, though he hasn’t been officially tied to any recent or upcoming Jumpman releases.
Despite the shared blue tones of those inspirations, the Vans duo consists of black and pink colorways featuring navy and brown interiors, respectively. Quilted stitching covers the forefoot and heel, while high rubber foxing adds both durability and a refined finish.
Both quilted Slip-On Premiums are available now via the Vans website for $95 each. See our Where to Buy sections below for purchase links.
