adidas has slowly rolled out a new Made in Germany line, highlighting some of their iconic silhouettes with a craft-focused approach to production. This week, the ZX 8000 has surfaced in a MiG style, dressed in “Lucid Aquamarine” for the occasion.
adidas’ Made in Germany shoes are a celebrated part of the brand’s heritage, originating in the 1970s and 1980s when adidas produced premium athletic footwear in its German factories. These models, including the Spezial, SL 72, Marathon TR, and Country, were known for high-quality materials, precise construction, and timeless design. Though adidas shifted most production overseas in later decades, the Made in Germany line endured as a cult favorite among collectors and style enthusiasts. In 2024, the program was revived for special edition releases, starting with JJJJound’s Samba, and continuing with Superstars and Handballs into 2025.
Today, adidas is starting off 2026 strong, with another release from the Made in Germany program. This time, they are highlighting the ZX 8000 from 1989, a shoe that appears to be gearing up for another retro run with several pairs lined up for release in 2026. The MiG edition of the classic runner comes in a new “Lucid Aquamarine” color scheme, a subtle nod to the model’s iconic “Aqua” pair from the original late-’80s debut. White mesh and light grey suede make up the bulk of the shoe’s upper, adding in-between panels in in black. The signature Three Stripes and toe box reinforcement come in the vibrant aquamarine hue, as do the midsole inserts and adidas branding. This is all mounted on top of a yellowed rubber sole, while a Made in Germany lace tag completes the look.
