Who could’ve predicted that a Vans shoe would shut down Midtown Manhattan? In an era when sneaker collecting has largely moved into the digital realm, an accomplishment (or black eye, depending on your point of view) like that is even fewer and farther between, speaking to the renewed cultural cachet that the skate shoe company has found with their heavily accessorized recent releases.

Though Satoshi Nakamoto owns both that NYC flagship moment and the most significant resale darlings of the past few years, the brand’s biggest inline success to date has been the “Souvenir,” a distressed variation on the Old Skool 36 that faithfully pulled from archival Chanel bags for its debut “Warm Brown.” Shortly after, they revisited the concept for a “Burgundy” flip, divorced from the source material but nonetheless capturing the same coveted energy.

Step three nets the Vans Old Skool 36 “Oatmeal,” now seen here with official images. Again, the off-white tonality used here may not be a one-to-one application of the “On the Pavement,” instead perhaps closer to the “Oh My Boy” which dipped into similar pre-distressing. Nonetheless, the special edition touches that set off this series in the first place remain in place, with a Boucle side stripe in multicolor, splashes of dark grey stitching, and a mosaic of button charms.

The Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir / Oatmeal” doesn’t have a concrete release date attached just yet, but more than likely we should be seeing a drop as the brand’s Summer cadence rolls on.
