MetLife Stadium will play host to the World Cup final in just under two weeks (at the time of this writing), the capper on the first trilaterally hosted showcase in FIFA history, and a culmination of what’s been a year-plus-long effort by the biggest brands to capitalize on that unprecedented stage.

The Nike Total 90 III SP was truly a canary in the coal mine in that regard. Nike began priming the pump well before a single shot or pass took place, setting up the reworked performance silhouette to be Beaverton’s face of the tournament. Even if the Cryoshot has superseded it in terms of being the most high-profile, on a sheer volume standpoint, the T90 stands alone.

All that means it’s entirely natural for the silhouette to again jump to the front of the line for a stated ode to the showcase. Checkered interiors a la the “Croatia” or various other World Cup efforts made that tie concrete already. Yet it’s advance product descriptions, where Nike stamps this palette as one comprised of “colors celebrating the games on soccer’s biggest stage,” that truly cement it. Shaggy suede materiality, a rarity on this model, further sets this one apart.

The Nike Total 90 “Black/Volt” is already available on select global channels, with a wide Nike launch likely coming soon to the US if Nike is to earnestly capitalize on the closing of the World Cup.
