On paper, the New Balance 991 shouldn’t be getting much of spotlight right now. The New Balance 991v2, first introduced in late 2023, has done a fine job evolving the Made in England franchise through its updated construction and an extraordinarily strong run of in-house styles and special projects alike. However, questionable as it may be, the original 991 from 2001 looks primed to reprise a role of its own moving forward. Following a two-style collection by Aimé Leon Dore founder and New Balance Made in USA creative head Teddy Santis comes a fresh “Chocolate Plum/Caramel Cafe” in-house colorway, shown here via retailer images.

The Made in England silhouette here does a fine job staying close to home with an overarching aesthetic rooted in British leisure, a clear focus for the brand’s Flimby pipeline opposite the near-$300 Allerdale walking shoe. Chocolate Plum and Caramel Cafe leather appear on the overlays and base layer, respectively, with each section rendered in its own distinct texture for added visual depth. Beige underlays split the two central tones, with the accent color returning on the tongue and heel window. A white leather sock liner rounds out the upper, while a white midsole and brown outsole finish things off underfoot.

The New Balance 991 “Chocolate Plum/Caramel Cafe” doesn’t have a concrete New Balance release date yet, but EU retailers appear to be getting pairs in already. See detailed images below and stay tuned for further updates.
