Terrace Culture Classic, the PUMA Palermo, Is Back

In February 2021, Hypebeast asked, "Is the Sneaker Industry Ready for an Early-00s Revival?" Our question centered around the re-release of various low-profile silhouettes that were often associated with terrace culture in the UK and Italy in the 1980s, and subsequently, the styles' resurgence in the 2000s. It seems we were onto something, as the iconic PUMA Palermo is back.As teased by the sportswear label's ambassador Dua Lipa earlier this year, the Palermo is a style saturated with nostalgia. Specifically, it was worn by the football-mad connoisseurs of terrace culture and the fashion that came hand-in-hand with this generational movement -- think Sergio Tacchini polo shirts, Lacoste accessories, and some Stone Island if you're lucky. Now, your inner casual shall rejoice, as not only does the OG pair return, but it also comes back in its signature classic colorway. Here, PUMA opts for blue and white, and it is -- of course -- found in suede and leather. The signature T-toe construction remains a staple part of this pair, as does a gum sole unit, and the gold-stamped PUMA-branded tag on the lateral panel. Thick white laces, a white PUMA cat logo, and a clean white interior round out the pair.In addition to this, PUMA also delivers the shoe in "Icy Blue/Orange" and "Green Illusion," the latter of which comes with fuchsia accents. Both are in tribute to Palermo's iconic fruit vendors, known locally as "fruttivendolo," and both are sure to serve you well this summer.Check out the PUMA Palermo campaign above, and find the sneakers on PUMA's website now, where they retail for £90/$100 USD.Elsewhere in the world of throwbacks, check out Heaven by Marc Jacobs and Blumarine's collaborative nod to the 2000s.
