Nike’s retro of the original Air Rift has been an immensely popular women’s model for the past few years. This Summer, the Swoosh is bringing back the Air Rift 2, the 2002 update to the slim runner, coming soon in “Swan” white.

Nike’s split-toed Air Rift first appeared in 1996, inspired by barefoot runners in Kenya, and named after the country’s Rift Valley where these runners train. The model’s Tabi toe was a divisive decision from Nike at the time, but a necessary one to mimic the full sensation of running barefoot across rough terrain. The Rift found its audience among people who enjoyed an airy, breathable shoe, thanks to it’s Mary Jane-style single strap closure and neoprene form-fitting construction. In 2002, Nike issued the Air Rift II, an update on the slim runner with a more streamlined sole unit, and a new slip-on construction made form a mix of mesh and neoprene with perforations running down each side. This week, the Rift 2 has surfaced in a “Swan” colorway via Nike’s overseas stores, mixing Swan grey mesh with Summit White neoprene, and just a hint of Ice Blue for the various Swoosh hits.

The next colorway of Nike’s Air Rift 2 retro does not have a set release date yet, but has already dropped via the Swoosh in some overseas markets like Australia, meaning a US drop is coming soon. The new look comes in a crisp Summit White look with Swan and Ice Blue mixed in. Pairs will be available from both Nike and select retailers for approximately $130.
