Nike is finally giving us their modern take on a classic; the Flyknit Racer/Trainer from the early 2010s. Unearthed in a new leaked photo today, the model is reportedly called the Flyknit Runner, and releases in Spring 2027.
Nike’s Flyknit technology holds a special place in the hearts of many sneakerheads, including me. The knit fabric tech was originally unveiled for the 2012 Olympics, and quickly made its way into the hands of the public and onto the uppers of dozens of Nike sneakers for the rest of the decade. The early Flyknit models, the Racer and Trainer, were the shoes that truly got me into sneakers, as finding a way to get my feet into a pair without any source of income or knowledge of buying hard-to-get products became my full time job outside of attending high school. Luckily, Nike went all in on the lightweight fabric, spreading the knit material out across nearly every division of their business. Hell, they even made Flyknit jackets at one point.
In 2017, Nike issued retros of some classic Flyknit Racer/Trainer colors to celebrate their fifth anniversary, but those models have disappeared since. Many fans, myself once again included, have publicly asked for them to bring it back. Nothing has been made official yet, but a new leak seems to suggest they are working on a modernized version of these beloved classics; the Flyknit Runner. Seen here in a brief and very early glimpse, the model features a fully knit upper mounted on top of what looks suspiciously like a LunarLon midsole. The ribbed foam segments look just like their more recent Lunar releases, though they could be adapting ReactX cushioning to fit this early-2010s style.
NIKE FLYKNIT RUNNER RELEASE INFORMATION
Very little is known about this upcoming all-new Nike silhouette right now. According to the source of this photo, Vlad Ciutacu of SneakerMarket.RO, the model is currently known as the Flyknit Runner, and will release in Spring 2027. Multiple colorways in both mens’ and women’s sizing are expected throughout next year, and the price is expected to be a cool $100. No style codes or color palettes are available quite yet.
