The Colette Air Jordan 1 Mid “Sashiko Gals” Is a Denim 1-of-1 Made for Sarah Andelman

Name: Colette Air Jordan 1 Mid “Sashiko Gals”Colorway: N/ASKU: N/AMSRP: N/ARelease Date: N/AWhere to Buy: N/AThe Colette Air Jordan 1 Mid “Sashiko Gals” is a one-of-one custom built for Sarah Andelman, the co-founder of the late Paris boutique, by the Japanese collective Sashiko Gals. Using a scarce friends-and-family Colette pair as its base, the piece swaps much of the original upper for a hand-stitched denim patchwork, turning an already rare sneaker into something no one else will ever own.Rather than starting from a blank shoe, Sashiko Gals worked directly on top of the Colette pair, layering denim over the majority of the upper. No two patches share the same tone or cut, and the collective arranged them differently on each side, so the left and right shoes read as intentionally mismatched rather than mirrored.Exposed thread holds the entire composition together, running across the denim in tight, right-angle lines that give the surface a gridded, hand-worked texture. That stitching borrows from sashiko, the traditional Japanese mending technique used to reinforce and repair worn fabric. The heels were left untouched, preserving the original Colette logos and the “2017” detail, which lines up with the year the boutique shut its Paris doors for good. The pair was made for Andelman’s own collection and will not see a retail release, making it one of the more intimate pieces in the collective’s growing body of sneaker work.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
