Nike has unveiled its latest Ekiden Pack, a range of footwear and apparel items celebrating Japan's running culture and its famed Ekiden season, in which multiple multi-stage relay marathons are held across the nation.The event is held on an annual basis and spans two days, one runner, as part of a team of two, covers a half marathon before tapping in their teammate to complete the race. Its name, Ekiden, stands for two things, "Eki" being translated to "station" and "Den" meaning "to convey." The name was given to the old Japanese transportation network when government documents were delivered by handheld relays of horses and men.In tribute to this, Nike's Ekiden Pack melds heritage with innovation, with a design ethos aimed at inspiring the next wave of athletes. The collection reflects Nike's commitment to understanding and incorporating local culture and trends into its designs, part of its Global Express Lane strategy.At the heart of the pack are five shoe models, the AlphaFly 2, VaporFly 3, Zoom Fly 5, Pegasus 40, and Rival Fly 3. Each model is available in vibrant pink and volt hues -- colors synonymous with speed in both Nike's palette and among Ekiden racers. Notable design elements include graphics reflecting the race's origins and the scenic landscapes of popular courses.The accompanying apparel line includes various tees and a versatile Nike Windrunner jacket. These items are adorned with a stripe motif inspired by the Tasuki, the sash that substitutes for a baton in Ekiden relays, further connecting the collection to the race's history.Nike Members in Japan will have early access to the Ekiden Pack on December 1, with a nationwide release at select retailers on December 8.
