The New Balance 991v2 builds on the legacy of the original 991, first introduced in 2001 as part of New Balance’s premium Made in UK running lineup. The 991 was notable for introducing ABZORB cushioning to the series, helping cement the model as both a performance runner and a lifestyle staple. The v2 refresh respects that heritage while refining the silhouette with updated tooling, improved comfort, and cleaner paneling. Still produced exclusively in Flimby, England, the 991v2 has become the program poster child, with new colorways and collaborations dropping consistently for the last two years.

This week, we have an early look at some of New Balance’s first releases of 2026 concerning the 991v2. Their monthly offerings have delivered everything from classic neutral styles to more vivid colors like the “Tapestry” blue pair, and collabs like Danielle Cathari’s “Reverse Matcha” design. One of the first releases of the new year will be an “Elephant Skin” colorway, which leans on classic NB grey shades with just a pop of color. The mesh underlay comes in a dark, gunmetal grey, paired with a lighter and warmer elephant grey tone for the suede overlays. the color accent is a muted orange hue, applied to the leather support layers in between.
