Nike’s Air Max 1 ‘Sofvi’ is Inspired by Vinyl Toys

Nike has been pushing their iconic Air Max 1 this year, bringing plenty of new colorways to the retro model. This week, a new ‘Sofvi’ edition surfaced, inspired by Japanese vinyl toys.

The Air Max 1 has been on a tear of releases over the last two years. The iconic Nike running shoe celebrated its thirty-fifth anniversary last year, with the Swoosh pulling out all the stops for the occasion. From original colorways to the remastered ‘Big Bubble’ version, there are still plenty more pairs on the way for 2023. This week, we got an early look at a new ‘Sofvi’ version, which is inspired by collectible Japanese vinyl toys, the name being the shorthand for ‘soft vinyl’. This look begins with a white leather base for the upper, adding a candy red mudguard wrapping around the base. The midfoot panels come in a semi-translucent yellow gradient, while mirrored chrome Swooshes add even more flash. Small details include a mini Swoosh at the toe, and custom insoles to match the shoe box.

Nike’s upcoming special-edition release of the Air Max 1 has not been announced, though they are expected to drop sometime in Fall 2023. Inspired by Japanese Vinyl toys, the ‘Sofvi’ color scheme will likely be available from the SNKRS app and select retailers for $160, complete with special packaging.
