KAWS’ Nike Air Force 1 For Sky High Farm Supports A Good Cause

Brian Donnelly, best known as KAWS, has revisited the Nike Air Force 1 again – this time, for a good cause.

Collaborations between the New Jersey-native and Swoosh conglomerate have been some of the last decade’s most coveted. For their next linkup, which was in part enabled by Dover Street Market, the two longtime collaborators will assist Sky High Farm, a nonprofit organization tackling food insecurity of underprivileged communities. Previously, Sky High Farm – co-founded by Dan Colen of the infamous IRAK crew – worked on a capsule with Converse. Its next project with the Nike, Inc. family reimagines Bruce Kilgore’s iconic basketball silhouette from the 1980s into a duo sure to be desired by art collectors and streetwear enthusiasts alike.

In an exclusive interview with GQ, Colen shared that one of the complications he’s faced within the world of philanthropy is its elitism and exclusivity. Yet, this struggle has led Colen to think outside the box, leading to a partnership with KAWS powered by both Nike and Dover Street Market. “Brian has been a trailblazer in terms of what an intersectional practice looks like for an artist and how far into popular culture one can go,” Colen told GQ. “We really want our ideas to resonate at the level that his already have.”

KAWS work for Sky High Farm’s Air Force 1 keeps things simple, but unquestionably KAWS. The model is offered in classic white and black color schemes, falling in line with the sneaker’s most recognizable looks. Printed, dye-cut swooshes have been laid over original profile logos, which KAWS designed to channel some of the cloud-like imagery often used by Sky High Farm. Footwear and apparel prepped as part of the charitable collection features reused Nike shoes and clothing in an attempt to “acknowledge that the world is already full of creative design,” according to Colen.

The project releases in-store at DSMNY and online via skyhighfarm.org on December 16th. Pricing has not been disclosed by either party involved, but that’s likely to change soon.
