Say what you want about the actual All-Star Game, but there will be no slander around the culture that orbits it. The mid-February classic still stands as the grandest stage in sneakers, and while the wins may mean nothing for the East and West (or in this year’s case, the US and the World), they matter heavily in the footwear industry. The competition has been absolutely fierce and margins are perceived to be thinning, but let’s keep it a buck — All-Star lives and dies by the Swoosh.
The formula for a strong All-Star showing has never changed. Needle-moving superstars of this year and next, next-level product innovation, marketing creativity bordering on genius, and building community with local leaders are all required to make a lasting impression. For 2026, the triumvirate of the Nike, Inc. brands came together to deliver a full weekend of excitement fueled by the love of basketball. Throughout public-facing events, sneaker drops, regular appearances by athletes, and goods available exclusively on the ground in the Los Angeles area, it’s safe to say that the trip out to the desert will be worth it in 2027.
Nike, Jordan, and Converse invited Sneaker News along a “tri-brand” journey to experience how they were able to show up in a city that scoffs at second place.
Crenshaw is among the most historically significant neighborhoods in the United States, acting as a hub of Black arts, sports, and business for decades. What has occurred in this area has moved well beyond the limits of South Los Angeles, undeniably influencing American culture.
Welcoming Nike with open arms, Crewshaw High School served as the go-to destination for Swoosh fans during All-Star Weekend. Nike hosted key youth basketball showdowns as part of their Future Games series while transforming the actual school cafeteria into an in-person SNKRS experience to purchase the entire Warning Label collection, the Zoom Hyperflight “J-Will” PE, the Victor Solomon “Trophies Collection”, and other surprise exclusives like the Nike SB Air Force 1.
Perhaps the biggest drop was the mega-limited Fragment Design x Nike Book 2 Premium edition with the Warning Label-style shoebox and charm. Booker and Hiroshi Fujiwara made an appearance, signing pairs for the lucky few who were able to secure the mega-limited release. Just prior to that, the two surprised the Crewshaw Cougars basketball team with gifted pairs.
“It’s cool to see it go from digital to irl…it’s like we’re in an architectural model to scale.”
Lauren Halsey and Monique McWilliams on the 11th St. Market
The courtyard was transformed into 11th St. Market, an outdoor makeshift mini-mall of sorts consisting of local businesses like Crenshaw Skate Club, Black Market Flea, Circulate, Suay, and more. Each independent shop had exclusive collaborative products with Nike as well as their own goods for sale to the public. Crewnshaw’s very own Lauren Ashley and Monique McWilliams were tapped as creative directors of the space.
During the Future Games held on the evening of February 14th, Cade Cunningham made a surprise visit to not only watch the hoops, but to greet top-level high-school basketball players from China and to also speak about the Greater China-exclusive Nike S.T. Charge. Cunningham debuted the silhouette during All-Star Weekend; the shoes will go on sale exclusively in Greater China later this year. You can read more about the shoes here.
North of Crenshaw High School, the Jumpman took over a city block to open the Jordan House Of Greatness. The location was strategic as it was directly under a common flight path for air planes landing at LAX Airport; on the roof was a giant Jumpman logo visible from those in flight, making the connection to Air.
From Thursday, February 12th through Sunday, February 14th, a full schedule of community-focused events as well as a dedicated retail space served the local community of South Los Angeles, with a series of high-heat drops including the Air Jordan 6 “Salesman”, Air Jordan 4 “Lakeshow”, and Air Jordan 6 Bin 23 available on a first-come first-serve basis. Restocks of past gems such as the Ferrari Jordan 14s and the Air Jordan 4 SB “Midnight Navy” were also up for grabs.
Celebrating the local culture, the Jumpman hosted various events including car meet-ups with none other than Luka Doncic. Los Angeles’ booming vintage culture was on display at the swap meet on Friday afternoon, while on Saturday morning, the space was temporarily transformed into a ‘No Thorns, No Roses’ activation for Teyana Taylor’s upcoming Air Jordan 3 “Concrete Rose”.
At night, the House stayed open. On Friday, Jordan Brand hosted a “House Party” with a series of local DJs; after hours a surprise set wby the one-and-only Erykah Badu kept the party going–more proof that one should always stay past the end credits. On the final evening, Jordan Brand hosted The Battle Of Los Angeles — a highly competitive 3v3 basketball tournament consisting of squads representing key crews of the area vying for a suitcase of cash.
“We have a lot on the way. You guys haven’t seen anything yet, I promise you that.”
Shai on what’s coming with Converse
Not since the days of Magic Johnson has Converse had a truly once-in-a-generation athlete like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Somewhere down the line, the next basketball superstar has the chance to run the trophy table like Shai did in 2025, but a mega-successful signature shoe debut will require the “aura” that the OKC Thunder superstar has managed to imprint on the next generation of hoopers.
The Converse SHAI Lounge was a physical representation of Shai’s taste for the finer things. There were no shiny metallic surfaces, but rather polished marble and granite and satin brown curtains. Not to mention the mocha-colored leather sofas in place of gym bleachers and sports banners. Given the debut launch of the SHAI 001 Lux was the rich “Truffle”, Converse had decadent spheres of chocolate being hand-made at the event by an artisan. SHAI 001-shaped chocolates were also available to snack on.
Converse invited a select few to visit the lounge with Shai himself, but the space was open to the public on February 14th for the first release of the Converse SHAI 001 Lux: Truffle. Not to worry if you weren’t in Los Angeles; the premium edition pair will be available again on February 27th for $170.
