Kobe Bryant fans have every reason to view next year as a full-length celebration of the life of the Black Mamba. On the Chinese zodiac calendar, 2025 marks a year-long celebration of the snake, a symbol of wisdom, charm, elegance, and transformation. With that in place, Nike has concocted a whole selection of Nike Kobe footwear to truly honor the Year Of The Mamba.

Today, we have a first look at the Nike Kobe 5 Protro “Year Of The Mamba”, revealing a breathtaking upper design that sees the Swoosh logo transforming into the creature. These early leaked images are very likely a sample as there are some superfluous markings on the sole, but this is indeed one of two Year Of The Mamba colorways that are expected to drop in 2025 (the other is a yet-to-be-revealed red/gold colorway).

Originally thought to be the Kobe 5 “Eggplant”, this upcoming 2025 release sees a metallic purple shade covering the upper, matched with a black package on the heel, interior, laces, and the Swoosh logo. A translucent outsole rubber is expected to accompany the design to keep things simpler in order to let the golden Mamba snake shine on the exterior.

The Kobe 5 Protro “Year Of The Mamba” is currently expected to release on February 8th, 2025; adult and GS sizes are confirmed.
