adidas Previews Their Next-Gen ClimaCool Models for 2026

adidas is expanding their range of 3D printed ClimaCool shoes in the future, furthering their innovative Futurecraft line. Recently, the brand hosted a showcase that housed prototypes of upcoming models, which will begin to roll out in 2026.

adidas kicked off its 3D-printing journey with the Futurecraft 3D in 2016, which featured printed midsoles tailored to a user’s foot pressure zones. They followed it up with the Futurecraft 4D in 2017, where the entire midsole was lab-printed using data-driven lattice structures for cushioning and support. In 2024-25, adidas went all-in with the 3D Printed ClimaCool, the first full shoe built through additive manufacturing, combining upper and chassis together in one seamless build. The slow but steady innovation of the futuristic sneaker technology continues to expand, and the Three Stripes recently hosted a showcase to share whats next for the ClimaCool line.

When the ClimaCool debuted in its new, fully printed form late in 2024, it felt like a huge step forward for the brand’s additive manufacturing capabilities. Then, this Summer, they introduced another member of the Clima family, a Laced version that reincorporated textiles into the silhouette, while maintaining the predominantly printed design. Now, adidas is starting to show off their next steps. These new designs once again bridge fabrics and rubbers, though in a much more unique way than the original 4D-soled running sneakers from the late 2010s.

Two silhouettes were the highlights of the recent showcase of ClimaCool product, the FutureCool and the FutureCraft X. First up, the FutureCool introduces a radical new design for the shoe’s printed components. The midsole uses the same lattice structure as previous models, but replaces a full printed upper with an exoskeleton-like cage system. Inside, a sock-like bootie is attached, for a more form-fitting wear, as well as adding more comfortable padding around the ankles and heels. The FutureCraft X has more printed filament in its structure, but further incorporates textiles into its design with panels along the tongues and heels. These will likely allow the foot opening to stretch and move with the wearer a little more than the current ClimaCool shoes.
