Vans Old Skool Souvenir, Jordan 4 “Comic,” And This Week’s Best Releases

Is it 2016 again?

Could it have been possible in any other year that Vans could jump over the Jumpman like this? Well, we’d save any sweeping declarations for another day, but at least for this week’s releases, the two companies make strange bedfellows at top. Vans’ viral “Souvenir” series checks off opposing black and white colorways and the Air Jordan 4 embraces “Comic” pop art, the second drop for the silhouette in the coming days (following the “Birds of Paradise.”)

As always, the story may begin with our headlining duo, but certainly doesn’t end there. Kevin Durant’s saccharine “Candy” pack meets apple red, Ja Morant issues another take on the Air Force 1, K-Pop Demon Hunters and Vans are back in action, Sophie Cunningham earns her first public release, and the Air Max 95 “Lawson” follows a much more… low-key path to release than the other shoe once included in a pack alongside it.

July 19th clears out for the Nike Mind 002, dropping off two flooded looks to begin the week.  (“Pink Smoke” and “Camo Green”)

July 20th is Christmas in the summer, or at least has a sequel to a Holiday smash. The KPop Demon Hunters Vans partnership keeps going up, up, up with the Old Skool “Golden,” a shimmering kids’ pair inspired by the #1 single. Additionally, Nike’s ultra-luxe artisan series continues with the Nike Total 90 Atelier, expected to go live for pre-order on the 20th.

July 21st is all about the hoopers, with a twist. Yes, the Nike KD 19 “Candy Apple” leads the day with another flooded look, but the Air Force 1 Low Ja Morant builds on #12’s off-court catalog. In a nod to the Swoosh’s varsity circuit, the A’Two “Nike Nationals” brings an EYBL look to the public.

July 23rd continues the series that cemented Vans as a big-time player once again; the Old Skool “Souvenir” marks black and white palette-swapped colorways. Over in Beaverton, the Air Jordan 4 “Birds of Paradise” and Jordan Heir Series 2 “Birds of Paradise” deliver lifestyle and performance takes on the same avian concept. The Nike Mind 001 and 002 arrive joined in red/blue “AMP” looks, and the Nike Air Liquid Max has three colorways in the works (Black, Black Metallic, and Smoke Grey). Closing with the Three Stripes, the adidas Hyperboost Euphoria brings the brand’s new cushioning platform into a more casual setting.

July 24th sees adidas pay homage to two non-signature pros, as the Crazy Energy “Sophie Cunningham” and Crazy Energy “Satou Sabally” give the Fever and Liberty stars some exclusive heat. In a similar move, Nike re-issues a former exclusive, as the Air Zoom Huarache 2k4 “Sue Bird” pours out an era-accurate ode to a W trailblazer.

July 25th has the true gem for the Jumpman this week, as the Air Jordan 4 “Comic” strays far beyond the hardwood for a San Diego-approved take on Mike’s signature. Despite the 7-Eleven lawsuit that halted those releases (and many secondary market pairs) in their tracks, the Nike Air Max 95 “Lawson” will indeed see the light of day as a “Convini” pack representative.
