It’s been nearly a decade since The Stone Roses last took the stage together, but the band’s influence remains firmly embedded in popular culture. Few groups captured the spirit of 90s British youth quite like them, and their impact helped lay the groundwork for the Britpop movement that followed. Like many British youths of the era, The Stone Roses made adidas their athletic brand of choice, with frontman Ian Brown in particular making tracksuits a signature part of the “Madchester” look.

That long-standing association has led to multiple adidas x The Stone Roses collections in recent years, often with Manchester United worked into the mix. Leading this latest pack is the often elusive adidas Tobacco, here dressed in grey and black suede atop gum soles. The band’s self-titled 1989 debut album is referenced in a few thoughtful ways, including gold-lettered album artwork on the insoles. The left tongue features The Stone Roses’ iconic lemon symbol, a longtime emblem of anti-establishment defiance that traces back to the 1968 Paris student riots, where protesters used lemons to counter the effects of tear gas.

Also included is the adidas ZX 600, perhaps a more era-appropriate silhouette from the mid 1980s. It carries the same tongue branding and special insoles, though this time featuring Manchester United crests. The sneaker itself pairs navy suede and mesh with white and red leather stripes.
