The Nike Air Max TL 2.5 occupies interesting territory for the sportswear giant. Not quite a running shoe, yet not far enough removed from the cross-training world; not from the halcyon ’90s Air Max class, but arriving just before a totemic retro like the Vomero 5.
Whether it’s a case of aiming at the cyclical nature of fashion a bit too late or a bit too early, the Nike Air Max TL 2.5 hasn’t become a breakaway success in the way that some of its brought-back peers have, but judging by a steady set of new colorways, clearly it’s speaking to some subset of consumers. Many of those editions have relied on neutral bases, with this “Dusty Cactus” pair being no exception. A color split that plants heavy-duty grey on the bottom of the design and airier white up top finds the titular teal splitting that half-and-half treatment on the Swoosh.
