Kawhi Leonard is valid for life in Toronto for what he did with the Raptors as a rental in the 2019 Finals, but if he can help guide this young core to success in his second stint? That’s statue stuff. Supporting Kawhi on that mission is the New Balance Kawhi 5, his fifth signature model with the Boston brand, set to debut October 21st in two makeups.
The colorways are as simple as can be, one arriving in sage green with gold “N” logos and another in navy with icy blue branding. Like Kawhi himself, the goal isn’t to make a lot of noise but to blend seamlessly into the background. The tooling is where more adventurous creative liberties are taken, the model differing greatly from the retro-leaning identity of its predecessor with a slimmer upper and synthetic/TPU detailing evocative of some of the brand’s retro tech runners.
The arrival of Tyrese Maxey to the New Balance signature roster means Kawhi isn’t likely to get as big a push as he might be used to with a new model, but for real hoopers, his shoes have been pretty well received throughout. If you’re curious to test these out, both colorways drop October 21st for $160 via New Balance and select retailers.
