For New Balance, the title of “newest tech runner” has the highest turnover rate in the sneaker industry. The Boston brand has been rapidly expanding its lifestyle lineup with fresh silhouettes season after season, routinely finding new ways to utilize the cushioning technologies and sole units of its past.
The New Balance 1954R is up next, first teased by Kith founder Ronnie Fieg and now beginning to emerge in essential GR colorways. Where the 2002R and 1906R borrow the sole of the New Balance 860v2, the 1954R and recently-introduced New Balance 1890 pull from the midsole of the 2002, a premium Made in USA model from 2010 that never quite found its footing.
This “Triple Black” colorway is the second GR to surface, emerging in the wake of a monochrome grey look. The key difference is the underlays, taken in a glossier, almost patent leather finish this time around.
The New Balance 1954R hasn’t been officially announced yet, though a Fall 2026 debut and price tag in the $150-$200 range both feel like safe bets. See official images of the “Triple Black” below if you’re considering copping.
