With the Air Jordan 41 expected to take the reins in the near future, Jordan Brand is closing out the Jordan 40’s run with a bang. The brand has seeded a Jordan 40 “Greatness Edition” to just 23 people around the world it believes have achieved extraordinary heights in their respective fields, complete with an ultra-premium design and the sort of elaborate packaging, extras, and storytelling you’d expect from such a special delivery.
Jacques Slade, or @kustoo, is one of the 23 recipients, among the most well-known and respected sneaker YouTubers working today (you can check out his full unboxing HERE). The central theme is time, how you value it and what you do with it, something Jacques exemplified well by launching his YouTube channel just a day after getting fired from his publishing job in 2013.
The elaborate, deeply considered nature of the package reads more like a journey than an unboxing. Recipients are greeted by a mirrored shoe box, followed by an envelope asking, “What is your definition of time?” Inside is a letter from Jordan Brand’s Jason Mayden connecting the sneaker to its recipient, alongside a placard further outlining the theme and a booklet detailing the entire journey of the Air Jordan 40, including the Jordan Brand team members who made it possible.

The next phase includes white gloves and a cloth for handling the remaining artifacts with care, immediately put to use with a custom Hanhart stopwatch featuring Jordan branding. And then, finally, the shoes themselves. The Jordan 40 “Greatness Edition” features a white pony hair upper, black leather toe cap, and grey hairy suede around the heel. The white pony hair is meant to evoke the G.O.A.T., another layer of symbolism in a project already rich with them.
The Air Jordan 40 “Greatness Edition” will not see a public release, and with no colorways currently on the calendar, it’s safe to say the model’s public run has come to an end. The Air Jordan 41 is expected to be announced any day now.
