Saucony is hopping on the Mule train this week, bringing their 2011 ProGrid V2 into the mix with two smooth colorways, and a lacelss, backless new construction.

Mules have become an essential part of the sneaker economy, offering up simple, comfortable alternatives to everyday models. Their popularity took a sharp turn upwards in the post-pandemic world, when shoppers turned to prioritizing comfort over style. While the fashion market has started to shift back to outfit-maxxing over casual comfort, sneaker brands have found a new audience by turning their classic models into backless, slip-on models. New Balance has particularly leaned into this, offering up mule versions of older runners like the 2002. This week, we have an early look at Saucony’s latest contribution to the mule world with a modified version of their ProGrid V2 runner. The silhouette first arrived in 2011, offering up a cross trainer that balanced mileage with strength training with adequate cushioning for each. The new Mule pair removes the shoe’s lacing system and heel, turning the retro runner into a sleek slip-on. Two colors have been prepared for its launch, a triple black and a brown/black option. Both pairs feature a mix of nubuck and suede panels along mesh tongues in place of traditional lacing.

Saucony’s new entry into the field of runners-turned-mules is scheduled to land later this week, on August 1st, 2026. The ProGrid V2 Mule has two colorways lined up for its debut, a simple triple black option and a light brown, black, and red-accented pair. Both sport a mix of nubuck and suede for their uppers, with mesh tongues for breathability. Pairs will be available through the brand’s website for an estimated $140.
