Paolo Banchero Shows Off an Air Jordan 40/28 PE

Last month, the new Air Jordan 40 was revealed in a duo of unique styles, paying homage to previous mainline Jordan silhouettes. Now, another pair has surfaced, combining the AJ40 and AJ28 in a special player-exclusive style for Paolo Banchero.

the Air Jordan 40 is one of the best mainline Jordan models of the past two decades. After Mike retired and Tinker Hatfield stepped away from the flagship franchise, models got a bit rocky. The brand was suddenly forced to pivot to different designers and to create shoes for players other than their namesake, and things got weird pretty quickly. Pretty much every model from the 15 onward were hit or miss, and mileage may vary for each depending on how you were first introduced to each model. When they hit the AJ31 mark back in 2015, there seemed to be a corner turned, as the next few models took heavy inspiration from the early styles.

This year, Jordan Brand introduced their fortieth mainline sneaker, and it looks gorgeous. The AJ40 is a more simplistic approach to modern performance basketball, hiding all of its best work under the hood. The model has dropped in a small assortment of colors since its launch this Summer, with more unique pairs on the way soon. Last month, we got an official look at two styles that mimic previous AJ entries, celebrating the AJ16 and 23 models. This week, Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero showed off another heritage version, combining the 40 with the ultra-high zippered shroud of the 28.

The Air Jordan 40/28 hybrid is unfortunately not expected to release to the public. This pair is a player-exclusive model, likely only given to Banchero and other Jordan athletes. However, with the 16 & 23 hybrids appearing in official images, we are likely to see more unusual combinations hit shelves in the future.
