Nike’s Air Max 90 Surfaces in a Suspiciously “Skunk”-Like Colorway

Nike is getting after their 4/20 release a bit early it seems. This week, official images of a new Air Max 90 have surfaced, bearing a strong resemblance to their iconic “Skunk” SB Dunk that first released way back in 2010.

Nike’s history of 4/20-themed sneaker releases began in 2004 with the introduction of the “Hemp Pack” by Nike SB. This collection featured the Dunk Low in “Green Hemp,” “Cascade Blue,” and “Red Mahogany,” each constructed with hemp uppers and subtle cannabis-inspired details. The release was initially understated, but the connection to 4/20 became clearer when the “Cascade Blue” pair launched on April 20. This marked the beginning of an annual tradition, with Nike SB continuing to release 4/20-themed sneakers in subsequent years, solidifying the date’s significance in sneaker culture.

Fast forward a few years to 2010, when Nike SB released their most iconic 4/20 themed sneaker, the Skunk Dunk. Featuring the Dunk High for this release, the silhouette came in an entirely shaggy suede upper to mimic the look of fresh bud, and was cast in dark green and purple hues to complete the effect. This release arrived in an alternate “Reverse” format ten years later in 2020.

Now, it appears Nike is at it again with another skunk-like release, although this one tones down some of the more outright nods, in favor of a much more subtle approach. the Air Max 90 is the canvas for this release, and once again features the shaggy suede approach, covering most of the shoe in a dark olive green hue. This is paired with lighter green elements for the shoe’s TPU panels, and a dark purple shade for the Swooshes and main midsole components.

NIKE AIR MAX 90 “SKUNK” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike’s new shaggy suede edition of the Air Max 90 has not been announced officially yet, and we have no release window. Dropping in April of 2026 is not out of the question, and would be an apt time for this release. Dressed in dark green hues with even darker shades of purple mixed in, this pair is very reminiscent of their past 420-themed releases. Pairs will likely be available through Nike and select retailers for $145.
