It’s a season of “firsts” for Ja Morant. By the time we next see him on the hardwood, he’ll be fully kitted out in new threads, both in a Portland Trail Blazers jersey and rocking the Nike Ja 4, already looming as one of the most hotly anticipated silhouettes of 2026. Though it’s got massive shoes to fill given the breakaway success of the Nike Ja 3, initial fanbase reactions mean that it might just pull off the impossible and live up to the hype.

A “Nightmare” colorway will be among the first with which the public gets to test Morant’s latest, now appearing for the first time with multiple in-hand angles. Those who have been following this storyline know that it was already Ja’s choice for the official debut, but said initial shots limited our ability to truly parse through what the shoe has to offer.

Signature detailing like a triangle-laden exterior shell and an abstract “JA” spell-out, with a jutting piece of the midsole and a tastefully placed Swoosh, remain, calling back to certain graffiti-sprayed colorways of his previous signature models. An asymmetrical lace carve-out, molded compositions on the heel, and that synthetic “A” patch continuing underfoot and on the medial side are some of the new reveals here.

In that strip, the traction briefly turns to a repeating “12” pattern while providing dual-sided containment as it creeps onto the upper. To wit, the pattern through most of the outsole is composed of more micro-patterning, this time a range of triangles that should maintain the multi-directional grip the Ja 3 was renowned for. ZoomX insoles and Cushlon 3.0 foam are confirmed as well.

The Nike Ja 4 “Nightmare” is expected to be the debut colorway for the silhouette, dropping on August 13th. Further colorways like the Ja 4 “Jaws” are on the way through September.
