Nike’s going all in on their rereleases for iconic Kobe sneakers this year. Today we are adding another Kobe 8 Protro to the release calendar, rehashing the OG “Shanghai Fireworks” color scheme from 2013 for a holiday 2026 drop.

Nike’s Kobe Protro series began in 2018 with the Kobe 1 Protro, updating Kobe Bryant’s first signature shoe with modern cushioning and performance tech while retaining its original external design. Bryant himself insisted on this new method of rereleasing classic sneakers, refusing to allow Nike to release simple retros of his signature models. Protro (“performance retro”) releases honor Kobe’s Mamba Mentality by keeping classic silhouettes but improving traction, cushioning, responsiveness, and comfort. The Kobe 8 Protro is one of Nike’s main silhouettes for this year, with a number of the shoe’s OG colorways lined up for releases this year, including the “Mambacurial” and “Year of the Horse” styles. This week, the “Shanghai Fireworks” style has joined the list of upcoming drops, scheduled for holiday 2026. The look covers the retro silhouette in a fiery print for the engineered mesh upper, paired with Laser Orange tones for the rest of the shoe.

NIKE KOBE 8 PROTRO “SHANGHAI FIREWORKS” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike’s re-release of their 2013 Kobe 8 “Shanghai Fireworks” has not been announced, and is not expected to land until the 2026 holiday season. Now upgraded to the shoe’s Protro format, the fiery color scheme will likely be available from both Nike and select retailers, and will come with the updated $200 price tag.
