“Let’s get weird” is less a catchphrase and more a mandate for the Boston brand. New Balance’s designers have been entirely form-radical, knocking out offshoots at almost the same pace that they’ve introduced wholly new silhouettes (which is to say, extremely rapidly).

So who expected that to change as we turned the calendar? Paris Fashion Week has been a launching pad for several of NB’s more eye-catching recent efforts, from the impending New Balance 1890A to the new sneaker at hand, the New Balance 204V. On foot throughout the French metropolis’ showcase, the silhouette builds off of what has become the brand’s most delicate, with the base model attached to names like Rosalía, and turns it into a high-octane slip-on, chopping out the traditional lace system and replacing it with an elastic foot entrance and sharp overlays surrounding it. Though the geometry through the rest of the shoe remains consistent, strips of 3M and two hi-vis colorways help emphasize a racing-style aesthetic for this newest face.

The New Balance 204V is expected to release this July. Retail pricing for this new version hasn’t been announced yet, but we’ll keep this page and our Sneaker Release Dates page up to date with the latest as it comes down.
