Collaborations are cool and all, but New Balance’s oldest and most loyal fans know that general releases are all that’s needed to create a strong rotation, and that’s especially true when it comes to Made in USA styles. The Boston brand’s Spring/Summer Made in USA preview is due out any day now, sure to tee up nine new styles spearheaded by Aimé Leon Dore founder and Made in USA creative director Teddy Santis. It would appear that some have already begun cropping up online, including a New Balance 992 “Olivine” as well as the compelling 990v4 we have before us right here.

First and foremost is an Olive green midsole, a rarity for Made in USA sneakers as New Balance typically sticks to standard white, grey, and cream arrangements underfoot. That defining element eases seamlessly into matching premium suede overlays, followed by textured white leather underlays and open white mesh at the core of it all. Last but not least are your standard 3M hits on the N logo, backtab, and tip of the toe box.

While not a collaboration, this sort of olive style is well known within the Teddy Santis x New Balance canon, appearing notably on an ALD-exclusive 990v4 “True Camo” that’s restocked on several occasions. Subjectively speaking, this one might be better.
