Storytelling remains strong within the Jumpman. Jordan Brand is revisiting one of the most emotional chapters of Michael Jordan’s career with the upcoming Air Jordan 1 High OG “Love Letter,” inspired by his final exit from the game of basketball.

Scheduled to release this summer, the special edition colorway draws inspiration from Jordan’s farewell letter to basketball following his final NBA season in 2003. Published after his retirement from the Washington Wizards in 2003, the letter served as a heartfelt reflection on the game that shaped his life and legacy, concluding with the memorable phrase, “Much Love and Respect.”

That message serves as the foundation for the sneaker’s design, sticking to brown basketball leathers on the heel and ankle collar that age over time, while a classic “Black Toe” effect appears via the white/black leather combination at the toe and mid-panel.

The Air Jordan 1 High OG arrives in a premium construction featuring a blend of nubuck leather and soft suede, materials selected to age and wear over time. As creases, scuffs, and character begin to develop through regular use, the shoe is intended to reflect the journey and experiences that defined Jordan’s relationship with the sport.

Jordan signed off that leather with “Much Love and Respect,” a phrase that appears debossed onto the collar. That excerpt appears again on the premium leather hangtags, reflecting the journey and experiences that defined Jordan’s relationship with the sport.

Unlike many retro releases that celebrate on-court accomplishments such as the “Last Shot” in 1998 or the “Defining Moments” in 1991/1996, the “Love Letter” focuses on Jordan’s appreciation for the game itself. More than two decades after his final retirement, the message continues to resonate with athletes and fans alike as Jordan Brand looks beyond its 40th Anniversary and into its Golden Anniversary in the year 2035.
