The Kentucky Wildcats have gained distinction as the inaugural “Kobe Brand” program for the upcoming 2023-24 college basketball season, according to multiple sources cited by KSR.
Vanessa Bryant, widow of the late Kobe Bryant, specifically selected the University of Kentucky as the first Mamba school in collaboration with Nike. This partnership, which has been in the works for over a year, has now reached its finalization. Over the next several years, additional programs are anticipated to become part of this initiative.
During this season, the Wildcats will exclusively sport Kentucky-themed Nike Kobe sneakers and attire. The possibility of introducing special uniforms adorned with the iconic Mamba logo is also being considered for the future.
Earlier in July, Vanessa Bryant and the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation generously provided the team with Mambacita Kobe 4s before their trip to Toronto for the GLOBL JAM. In May, John Calipari received a personal gift from the Bryant family, including his own pair of Mambacitas, a Gigi Bryant jersey, and Kobe’s book, “The Mamba Mentality: How I Play.”
“This marks the inaugural collaboration with a university,” stated Kat Conlon, executive director of the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation during a media gathering. “Given the special bond between Coach Calipari and Kobe Bryant, we’re enthusiastic about any initiatives alongside the foundation that uphold the legacies of Kobe and Gianna Bryant.”
