JJJJound x New Balance 990v4 “Mushroom” Pre-Order Opens Next Week

UPDATE 12/5/25: JJJJound’s latest release from New Balance will be their first made-to-order release with the Boston brand. Pre-orders for the 990v4 “Mushroom” will open next Friday, December 12th, though it is unclear how long the window to order will be open. Then, shoes will be produced and shipped to customers in Fall 2026.

JJJJound appears to consider this release a very important step in their shared history with New Balance. In a blog post announcing the pre-order nature of this project, they talk about their history of the “Mushroom” brown colorway, which was the very first release of the 990v3 in 2018, and has since appeared on several other major NB silhouettes like the 992, 991 Made in UK, and 993 earlier this year.

Justin Saunders’ JJJJound has teased another entry in their popular partnership with New Balance. The 990v4 is back for another release, this time taking on the “Mushroom” color from a set of 993s that released earlier in 2025.

The partnership between Montreal-based basics label JJJJound and New Balance began back in 2018. The project was only JJJJ’s third step into the world of sneakers and footwear, preceded by releases with Vans and Victory Sportswear. At the time, the label was still largely focused on their upscale fleece offerings, providing incredibly good sweatsuits and basics at a reasonable price. Since then, the brand has grown tremendously, designing full apparel collections and accessories with collaborations that include lawn chairs, lamps, mechanical keyboards, and more. Through the years, they’ve maintained a healthy relationship with New Balance, offering a few releases each year to pair with their apparel.

This week, JJJJound has teased their next upcoming New Balance release, returning to the 990v4 for a fresh take on the fan-favorite model. Their last release of the silhouette was back in 2021, and they have worked on a vast range of NB sneakers since then. The new style is, in true JJJJ fashion, simple. The upper comes in a grey-brown shade very similar to their “Mushroom” pairs of the 993 that released earlier this year. This is paired with black branding accents, and a mixed white and yellowed sole to complete the look.

Canadian brand JJJJound has not announced any details regarding their next New Balance 990v4 release, so we likely won’t see this pair in hand until sometime in 2026. Featuring the “Mushroom” color of other recent NB projects, pairs will likely be available exclusively through the JJJJ website with a possible NB release to follow.
