Standing on the shoulders of giants is a theme you’ll hear echoed in the life story of any NBA player. Yet given his contributions to the game, pros are never shy about heaping praise on the late, great Kobe Bryant. To his credit, that was a two-way relationship, especially visible in a social media spree where Bean handed down challenges to the next generation of stars in the league. Giannis Antetokounmpo was tasked with winning an MVP award; DeMar DeRozan was asked to rekindle a lost friendship.

Though not documented on the platform, Kobe Bryant gave Devin Booker his own set of sage advice in 2016, signing a pair of shoes for the rising talent, stamping them with the phrase “Be Legendary.” In tattoos and sneakers since, we’ve been able to see just how central that moment is to to Book’s journey. Following a PE execution during the regular season, the Nike Book 2 now takes on the “Be Legendary” theme, marking the first public release under that moniker.

Since the Kobe 4 player exclusive of the same name, the color story has been constant for Devin. Purple uppers on the Nike Book 2 “Be Legendary” pair with cement grey speckled midsoles. To impart the same finishes from previous pairs, a synthetic mudguard section arrives in glossy materiality, a subtle twist on the mesh build that we’ve seen from the Book 2 plenty. This marks another PE-to-public release for the Suns superstar; the man himself laced up this colorway back in March.
