Balenciaga is entering the barefoot toe shoe chat. The Spanish fashion house led by creative head Demna recently previewed their Fall 2025 line, unveiling a new model called the Zero. While Balenciaga has a reputation for going outside-the-box, their latest slip-on might just be their most ambitious footwear offering to date.

The model is comprised entirely of foam and leaves almost the entire foot exposed. It’s not exactly a slide, sandal, or outdoor-minded barefoot shoe, but an unapologetically gorpcore fusion of the three. Balenciaga utilizes an extremely narrow footbed, complete with a traction pattern and grooves for all five toes. The foot is secured only by a rounded heel and slot for the big toe, leaving the other four toes and pretty much the entire forefoot out in the open. You can style these with socks, but they’ll need to be of the tabi-toe variety in order to separate your big toe from the rest.
