Australian retailer HAL Studios has forged a strong partnership with Asics in recent years, with the down under store regularly working on a new lifestyle runner. This month, they’ve unveiled the new GEL-NYC 2.0, making its debut in January.

Over the past few years, ASICS has teamed up with several Australian-based retailers and brands to create unique collaborative releases that blend performance heritage with local culture and style. Sydney’s Above The Clouds and boutique Up There have produced multiple special ASICS models like the GEL-1090 and GEL-Terrain, often drawing on Australian natural themes and design cues. Perth’s HAL Studios has also been a consistent partner for the Japanese brand, crafting environment-inspired variations of the Gel-1130.

This week, HAL Studios has formally announced their next release with Asics, which sees them moving away from the 1130 to a (somewhat) new model. In January, Asics & HAL will debut the GEL-NYC 2.0, an updated version of the immensely popular sportstyle runner that first appeared back in 2023. The new shape stays true to the original, though the paneling across the upper been altered slightly, and the midsole revised just a bit beyond its original styling. HAL’s take on the model will come in two colorways, a brown or yellow option, both paired with black as a secondary tone and plenty of 3M reflective elements for a night out in the Big Apple.

The next collaboration from Australia’s HAL Studios and Asics, debuting the new GEL-NYC 2.0, has been confirmed to arrive in January, though exact dates and details have not been shared yet. The project will feature two colorways of the newly updated lifestyle runner, yellow or brown, both with black and silver detailing. Pricing information is currently unknown.
